What threats do you prepare for? List the threats that effect you.

This thread is to discuss and to think about the potential threats that inspire you and others to prep. Everyone will have different threats depending where you live, some will be the same. Please list the potential threats that may effect you. Think about the impacts of the threats you listed. Are they Individual, Localized, Small Region, Large Region, National, or Global?

Some example of threats:

Earthquake
Hurricane
Tornado
Blizzard
Floods
Food shortage
Chemical spill
Car accident
Power outages
Job loss
Spouse death
Fire
etc...

In my area the most likely natural disasters we prep for are, Tornados, earthquakes, floods, severe storms i.e snow/ice, rain. Man made terrorist attacks ( we have 3 places in a 15 mile area that are possible targets) civil unrest, chemical spills/toxic release ( we live less than a mile from a large rail yard and have been evac'ed twice due to chem leaks.) Economic collapse/job loss, That pretty well covers most senerios that are possible/likely for this area. However IMO our preps are fairly "blanket coverage" enough for most situations. The one thing I am not happy with YET in my preps is for a pandemic that may cause us to need to bunker in for 5-6 months. I don't feel we have enough "luxury items" such as videos/DVD''s/CD's, puzzle's/crosswords etc. for that amount of time, Also My fuel supply for my genny's is borderline for that lenght of time.

If I can help one person to get prepared, If I can through my knowledge and prevent them from making the mistakes I have made. If I can help just one person to obtain the knowledge that will save their life or the life of a loved one. Then I will know that the time and work I have invested was and is worth every minute spent.

I generally prep for Natural Disasters.  Lets face it folks, these are the most LIKELY things that are going to happen.  Yes there is always the threat of terrorism, and unfortunately there will always be.  I dont see world peace happening anytime soon!  Undecided However, along with my regular preps, I also  buy other items that will help my family out in a terrorist type of a disaster.  But I dont focus on this, nor do I focus on "the end of the world as we know it".  With this economy something to think about is an unexpected job loss, or car accident both have already been mentioned.

Any type of disaster can start off localized for example, and turn into a regional, national or global emergency.  Just look at the Swine Flu H1N1 outbreak.  This began locally, and quickly spread to a regional, national, and global emergency in which the World Health Organization raised the Pandemic Threat Level to Phase 6, the highest and only time this has happened currently.

I agree with Oldsoldier, I too dont feel like my preps are ready for an extended period 6 months or longer.  I also dont feel like I have enough "luxury items" either.  Luxury items are often missed in prepping.  But this is why we continue to prep, isnt it?   Wink
