I understand it and I like Tate, but step two (getting out of the neighborhood) is not really a reasonable or even possible option for most.  Ideally, you'd have others around you with whom you could prevent these unprepared folks from bothering you for long.  Also, we could all just keep our mouths shut and not let others know that we are an option.  I'm quickly centering on this idea.
