Episode 160 – Herbs and edible plants, part 2

I brought Wade from Louisiana back on Today’s Survival Show for a second interview on herbs and wild plants for survival. In this episode he answers a listener’s question and offers some good information on how to grow herbs. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, Today’s Survival Show

I have to agree with Wade about the dangers and health benefits of herbs. I am an avid user myself preferring to go to my backyard before going to a doctor. Caution, caution, caution. Know what you are doing before doing it. Great post. I will be back for more.

    What about Duckweed?
Not an expert here. But from what I have read, it could be a food source until normal veggies come into harvest. Which is easily a month or three.

It can double it’s mass in a day!

Last but not least… I dont not have a website but if you would like to email me about herbs at wadecgeorge24@yahoo.com. And I would be happy to help you when I can (I have a full time job and I wont be able to respond right away… BUT I WILL GET BACK TO YOU) and point you in the right direction (with references and such) my spam filter is set pretty high so write this in the subject line…. “I HEARD YOU ON TODAYS SURVIVAL SHOW!!!) so I know its a real person and wont send it to the trash. Thanks guys!

Also VERY WISE decision to be hesitant on not taking herbs before you really understand them. I am very impress that you want to learn before you use. There are plants and herbs out there that if you do not know what you are doing they can hurt and not heal. And I rather have someone sick from the cold or flu than someone who overdosed on echinacea or took the wrong part of the herb surch as the purple coneflower of echinacea. This has happened and will happen again because people think that they know it all or they listened to a “know it all” and think it safe. So I just want to say GOOD JOB on that aspect!!

  5. WadeNLA says:

Norris, I need to know what references you need? Are you looking for personall referances for me or some literature about the herbs I talk about? What would constitute a “viable source” and not some one putting random stuff out on the website. Are you looking for F.D.A, EMEA (the European Union’s FDA equivalent) or others. Not meaning to sound brash and that is not how I want to come accross but some people do not belive certin gorvernment agencies publications (In my oppion for good reason) but I want to help you become better informed and not just take my advice on stuf. So if you can be more specific on what your looking for I will help you find it. Also please keep in mind my goal in these podcast is to give people options in longterm/ shortterm/ heathcare emergency situations. I do not think that one herb with solve every medical problem or that only herbs are the answer. My goal is to lay a buffet of info down at peoples “table” and let them pick at what they chose to digest. I am giving people options in a survival situation that they may not have thought about. I am no Doctor nor do I profess to be. So in my first podcast with Bob I told everyone that THEY HAVE TO DO THERE RESEARCH AND UNDERSTAND WHAT THE PLANT/ HERB IS AND HOW IT WORKS IN THE BODY BEFORE USING IT!

  6. I don’t think he does but I will bring him back to site sources.

    Bob,
I really enjoyed listening to Wade. It seems like he has a lot of practical knowledge. Does he have a website? I think it might be good if he could document some of this stuff, and perhaps even back it up with some references, etc. I’m a little hesitant to apply herbals for medicinal purposes, even though Wade sounded like he really knows his stuff. Really looking forward to the next segment.

    Thanks!
